BETTER WITH BUTTER BY: VICTORIA PIONTEK

Ba-bump. Ba-bump. Ba-bump. This is the sound of Marvel’s heart practically beating out of her chest when she was onstage about to present her speech. That is what happened in the book Better with Butter by Victoria Piontek. Twelve-year-old Marvel has an anxiety disorder, or as she calls it “armor”. Marvel finds an interesting friend on the way home from school known as an adorable fainting goat that is a great emotional support animal. Marvel is absolutely afraid of everything and she has a big presentation coming up at the end of the year. With all of her nerves building up, Butter helps calm Marvel down from all of her worries. Marvel and Butter are impossible to separate. Everything is much easier for Marvel now because she always has Butter by her side. Marvel starts to imagine a great life where she doesn’t have to be afraid. Soon, all of her dreams get crushed into a million pieces when she’s told she might have to give up Butter forever.
